Matt Johnson
Matthew Johnson is a former collegiate All-American, NFL veteran, and accomplished high school football coach dedicated to developing athletes on and off the field. A three-sport, 11-letter standout at Tumwater High School—excelling in football, basketball, and baseball—he earned a full-ride scholarship to Eastern Washington University, where he became one of the most decorated defensive backs in program history.
During his time at EWU, Johnson was a four-time All-Big Sky selection (two First-Team, two Honorable Mention) and a two-time All-American at safety. He finished his career second in school history with 17 interceptions, cementing his legacy as a dynamic playmaker and leader in the secondary.
Johnson was selected in the 4th round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys and spent three seasons in the NFL, with his professional career ultimately cut short due to injuries.
Transitioning into education and coaching, Johnson has spent five seasons as the Head Football Coach at Southridge High School, where he leads a culture built on development, toughness, and relentless effort. He also serves as a Physical Education and Weights teacher, holding a Master’s degree in Secondary Education and a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science.
With a passion for mentoring young athletes, Johnson continues to build programs defined by character, discipline, and competitive excellence.
